what is the difference between "Dispute" or "Validation" letters? When would you use one or the other? thanks

Dispute letters are sent to the credit bureaus (CRAs). Debt validation letters are sent to collection agencies (CA). 623 dispute letters are sent to original creditors (OC), but are more of an investigation request then an actual dispute. Also, 623 disputes can only be sent to OCs after a CRA dispute has been sent.
