Default Should I apply for a 0% credit card?

I had a Visa Credit Card through my bank, and my bank made a significant error back in September which showed up on my credit report as an outstanding balance and several months of missed payments. I was unaware of this error when I applied for a 0% credit card nearly a month ago. I was subsequently denied credit. At the time, I didn't think about checking my credit score (a dumb move, I know), and kept applying to more 0% credit cards - and I kept getting denied. Finally, I checked my credit score and realized I had this outstanding balance. I have since worked it out with my bank, and they have removed it from my credit report.

My question now is - can I now apply for a 0% credit card? Should I write to the credit company (Chase) and explain to them what happened and ask to re-apply? Also, I am worried that me applying for credit several times in a short time period will subsequently hurt my chances of getting credit. Any answers would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Even though you got the account removed, you should probably dispute the inquiries that were made as they are probably bringing your credit scores down. Once they are removed, reapply for the credit card.

The account is still in place - my bank is removing the delinquency from my credit report (since it was an error on their behalf). They said it should be removed by June 1st. Should I still dispute the delinquency (since it is currently sitting on my credit report)? Or should I wait until June 1st and check to see if it has been removed?

I only ask because I'm getting married in early July, and I'd like to be able to put some of the charges on a 0% credit card and pay them after the wedding. I'm worried that I might still get denied even after this has been removed - mainly because I applied for multiple credit lines in a short period, and also because most credit cards make you wait several months before applying again - that is why I am curious as to whether I should contact the credit card company, explain the situation, and ask if I could re-apply on June 1st.

Thanks for your help!

To simplify my previous post - my bank says the delinquency will be removed from my credit report, should I still dispute it?

Also - once this delinquency gets removed, my only other blemish on my credit report is too many recent requests of credit. Even with my delinquency, my credit score is still around 712. You think I will be able to get a 0% card?

No, don't dispute it if they said they're going to remove it. Dispute the credit inquiries that you made for other cards.

It's hard to get credit nowadays, even with those scores. You may be able to increase the scores by getting the inquiries removed.

Thanks for your help.

One company is allowing me to re-apply after the change in my credit report without dinging me for another hard inquiry.

As for the other inquiries - when I dispute, do I just explain the situation? Or should I use another excuse?

Sorry for all the questions... I appreciate your help though.

Don't need to explain anything. The burden of proof is on them. You can probably do it quickly online if you don't want to write a letter. We usually don't advocate online disputes, but for inquiries it's usually ok.
