I recently learned about debt validation. I have been paying a collection agency for 2 years now. Is it too late to ask for debt validation? They do provide monthly statements...Secondly, If I want to pursue a "pay delete" settlement to have the negative information removed from my credit report should I still pursue debt validation after all this time?

If you have never rec'd validation of the debt then definitely... you can ALWAYS ask for validation of the debt at any time. If this is reporting on your CRs AND they are able to validate it properly, then the best thing to do it try to arrange a pay for delete so that once you have made the last payment, they will remove it from your CRs. Is the balance you owe a large amount? (in other words are you worried about being sued over the balance) if not then you could refuse to pay them anything if they refuse to delete it. A paid CA acct on your CRs does you no good.... it looks just as bad as an unpaid one. They will tell you differently (of course) but it is a lie... |
