I looked over some of the HIPAA information on this site ( I've spent a good portion of my night and day researching here) and I think that I may be able to try to do this part myself... maybe. A good deal of my negative accounts are medical accounts. Do all of the accounts have to be past the statute of limitations for this to work? They are all collection accounts. Also many are with NCO (although some say financial services and some say credit services). The original creditors are listed though, so I shouldn't have any trouble reaching out to them. Would I send one letter to NCO financial services for all the accounts that they have and one to NCO credit services for all the accounts that they have? Or separate letters for each account? Similarly, when I write the original creditors do I send a separate letter for each account or can I include more than one account in the letter? HIPAA is a really good strategy at getting of medical debts. I have seen it work for tons of people. It can be a little confusing at first... I had to read it a few times for it to make sense... So if you have any questions about it, don't hesitate to ask and I will answer if I can. Now, regarding the collections.... no they do not have to be out of SOL although that would be ideal. The older they are, the more leverage you have and the less risk you have of having to deal with a lawsuit (if it is a high amount). NCO is a bottom feeder. They are well known for their illegal tactics. :glare: How old are the OC debts? what are the amounts? I wouldn't contact the CA on these just yet.. Depending on the accts, you may want to dispute them first and see if you have any luck getting them to drop that way. Then whatever gets verified, you can tackle later. If you can, give me some more info on the NCO and OC accts and then I can give you better answers.. you could even copy and paste the accts in this thread for us to look at. Just be sure to leave out personal/identifying info. And also.. have you read this yet? Basic Step by Step Beginner's Guide to Credit Repair Sort of a break down of easy steps... HTH |

I had NCO listing an account on me a while back. About 3 years back I kept getting these collection calls on my cell phone asking for a john or melissa, needless to say I am neither. I kept telling them I have had this phone number for like 6 years and I have no idea who they are looking for. They called daily for a LONG time until I finally started yelling at them every time they did. They stopped calling and 3 years later I pull my credit report and see the same debt they were trying to collect under my name. I just disputed it with 2 of the CRAs and it automatically came off all 3 before I had a chance to get to the last one. These scumbags are notorious for trying to stick these accounts on relatives or neighbors or people who have taken over phone numbers of the person they are looking for. Dirtbags. Anyway, they came off my reports very easy with just a simple dispute.
