Smile Guru's, Would You Mind Sharing Your Wisdom?

Hello Folks,

This is really a goldmine of a site. I have learned a lot hanging around in here and am finally posting some questions. I'm hoping that some of you will be willing to share your breadth of knowledge. Are there any lawyers, financial counselors, agencies etc. that can handle the pay for removal process for me? I'm in a PhD program and have an INTENSE course load. I would be willing to pay someone who could do this for me to make sure that it was handled properly. I don't want to mess it up if it's possible that this could go swimmingly with help from a professional. It sounds feasible that if so many are doing it themselves it must be a service offered by companies as well. I've read about 99 percent of consolidation companies being scams. I'm not interested in that. I want to pay and be past this. Where can I find a reputable attorney, agent or representative that can do this on my behalf?

The skinny: I have 18 items reporting negatively. I've never pulled my report until very recently but I suspected that it was bad. I had no idea it would be as bad as it is. I've got to get this fixed asap. I am completing my first year of a doctoral program and I'm beginning to think beyond being a student. I want to be ready to purchase a home, get a car that has heat .... you know be a contributing member of society and such when I'm done. 16 of the 18 are insignificant amounts. All are in collections with different agencies, no original creditors. Ten of them are with the same agency NCO, although some say NCO financial services and some say NCO credit services. The other six are with six different agencies- The part that makes me feel really shitty is that 16 of these items are only $5,000 bucks combined :o. I can pay that in full today, seriously. I planned to just call them all with the numbers listed on the reports and pay by phone. Then I read that my score could drop as a result since these are old accounts with no activity. They don't even call me or send letters. I saw the pay for removal information and if this is something that can/has worked for others I'd like them removed. If this pay for removal thing is real, that's ideal. Where can I find an agency to negotiate this for me?

So, guru's can you help me out? Do you know any agencies or attny's that are reputable and could handle this for me?

Hi Joe.. Welcome.
I personally do not have any experience with credit repairing agencies... but Chane (the site admin) has actually worked with Lexington Law in the past and has stated that they are reasonably priced and do a good job.

Also, here is a link to the top 10 CROs
Top 10 Credit Repair Services with Full Reviews

I've always been a big advocate of DIY.......but I also understand that not everyone has the time to do the research and the paperwork (letter, disputing, etc) so in that case...... the link above has the most reputable companies.

Hope that helps....and Good luck!
