Default Credit dispute killing mortgagae application

I received word from a friend that's a loan officer that is looking at my FHA approval (finally got scores back up) that the underwriter doesn't like seeing "dispute" on the tradelines. I have two meds that I'm going through the HIPPA process on and a late on the mortgage which I had months ago disputed b/c I didn't think I was late (five years with no lates so very unlike me to just forget those types of things). How hard is it to get those lines removed and if you request removal, do you go directly through the Credit Reporting agencies and is there a law that they have to remove that should you request it? I thought we had the legal right to question (and where encouraged in fact to do so) the things on our credit that we felt weren't correct. Where are our rights? I am fighting to purchase a house for myself and my son. Have decent scores. Good recent credit except two tiny medicals 2 yrs ago that are in dispute, stable income, good DTI, etc. This seems ridiculous. Help!

I honestly have not had any experience with the "in dispute" issue...... but if your mortgage lenders are frowning on it.... try calling up the CRAs first..... if that doesn't work you will have to contact the company reporting it and ask them to remove it.
Downside to that is....... if it's a CA and they sense you're desperate to have it removed, they may want you to pay before taking it off... which really sux but CAs are shady and it is possible they would do something like that.
