Here's my issue: I recently applied for a mortgage and was told that I had an outstanding balance charged off from a university about 5 years ago. Apparently it was sold to a collections agency and I never received notice that I even had a balance with the school, let alone a notice telling me it was sent to collections! I did an online dispute to verify the account and my dispute came back telling me it was verified as mine and gave me to name, address, and telephone number of the CO. Should I call the school and ask for proof or should I call the CO? Also, what information is ok to give them? I want them to have to prove I owe them before I start handing out personal information and money. |

There are many different methods you could use to get this account removed. You could try the 1-2 punch or a pay for delete or do the 623 dispute method. We advise against online disputes for many reasons. Don't give the CAs any information! Start here: Beginner's Credit Information
