I am a 25 yr old female who's finaly trying to repair my credit. I do not understand ANY of the abbreviations all over this forum so please be kind and patient with me. Story: I have a few negative (substantial) reportings on my credit report, from well over 7yrs ago. In MA the SOL is 6 yrs. I need to know what I should use to dispute these items. I understand that I am still responsible for paying the debts, but my undestanding of SOL is that it needs to be removed from my report and turned over to a private matter. So first of, Who am i writing these dispute letters to? The credit Bereaus or the collection companies? Both? Second, am I going to dispute saying that according to the SOL are expired and need to be removed? Or is there a better way to go about this? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated <3 -MoN |

In the beginners section, there's a thread explaining the acronyms.

First thing to clarify is that there is a SOL for reportin on your credit report and one for suing you for the debt. From your post, it seems the items you are referring to are past both. The clock starts ticking from the date of last activity or is sometimes called date of first delinquency. You will see this date on the credit report. For reporting, it is 7 years and should just fall off the report. If it has been 7 years past the date of 1st delinquency and it is still on your report, then u need to dispute with the bureaus and dispute the accounts as obsolete. In MA the SOL is 6 years. So, if you claim these accounts are from well over 7 years then it's past both SOLs. But, you really need to make sure because you don't want to run into a situation where you "wake the sleeping giant". By that I mean that you dispute it and the credit bureaus verify with the creditors and then the creditors realize the SOL is about to expire and they wake up and sue you. If you are sure of the time frames, then absolutely dispute those accounts as being obsolete. |

Thanks for the response! That is exactly what i waslooking for. I am SURE they are well over 6 yrs. But I encountered a new issue on my credit report. There is one account that I am POSITIVE I opened back in 2003. The report sais date opened 6/2008! So does this mean the creditor lied? What would I do about this one? Any ideas? |
