I sent requests for verification, clearly outlining my name, address, and ss#. Here is what I received: "We received your request concerning your Equifax credit file. We are unable to lacate a credit file for you for one of the following reasons: * You may not have a current file * You have not applied for credit recently * You have not actively used credit in the past ten years." Anyway .... none of the above reasons apply. They have asked me to send 2 forms of identification. Is this just a stall tactic? How should I reply?? Thanks!!! |

Is this your first time disputing with EQ ? I have not had a problem with them. When I send in my disputes I also send a copy of my SSN and current copy of utility bill. |

They are saying they don't have a credit file for you? Yet, if you sent a verification to Equifax it's because you have a copy of an Equifax report that contains an account you want to verify, right? If not, where are you getting the info you want verified? If u have a report, does it contain a report #?? if so, give them that # and let them find it that way.

My first reaction is that they did not treat your letter as a dispute, but rather as a request that they verify something in your credit file. In an actual dispute, verification is obtained from the creditor, not independently by the CRA. If you are disputing, then you must by definition have evidence that the information asserted to be inaccurate is being reported in your CR. I would communicate with them by clearly identifying it as a dispute under FCRA 611(a), and include proof of identity and a copy of the relevant portion of your CR showing the inclusion of the disputed information in that report. That will document both your identity and the ability to dispute, including the presence of a credit file with them. That is, if you choose to dispute through the CRA. Personally, I would bypass them entirely, and file your dispute directly with the party who reported the inaccurate information by using the direct dispute process under FCRA 623(a)(8). |
