I just got my credit report and there is a credit card on there that is not mine. So I'm thinking someone stole my identity and opened a card. Well, it's a $500 limit and is now overdue at $745. Do I call the credit card company or do i just dispute it with the Credit Report companies, Equifax etc? Thank you, new75 |

If you dispute it as not yours, the CRAs will automatically put a fraud alert on all 3 of your CRs. Which may be a good thing if it is ID theft. Go ahead and dispute it but at the same time I would call up the CC company and find out how the card was opened an if it is linked to your SS#. It may just be a clerical error or someone with your same name.... but if it truly is ID theft you may need file a police report and it would be a good idea to leave that fraud alert on your CRs.....it will keep any new cards from being opened without identity being verified first.
