Angry child support question

Here is the info that I got from Equifax minus the info that should not be shown to the public.

I noticed that Child support is suposed to be reported on the report for only 7 years, and as you can see it is on there for like 22 years now and as of now its ALL back support

I am still paying this off slowley due to garnisments from my work when i was working, and now thru unemployment due to our wonderful econemy.

My question is how do I get this off my report, or is it even possable???

This has been killing my credit for many years and makes it so hard to secure a car and in some cases a deacent place to live.

Any help, info, comments will be welcome

I had to do a little research on this as I am not too familiar with CS.

From what I can tell, it does not affect your FICO score but it can/will affect you when it's reviewed manually (which is what you're experiencing I would assume).

I have read that CS can be reported for 10 years once it is fulfilled/paid off.
There is some controversy as to how it should be reported. Some say installment account and others say it should be under public records.

Have you disputed this yet?
I say dispute it. It should not be listed as an open account.....and the dates are a bit confusing (DOLA from 2006 but you paid this month? Doesn't make sense) and may be reporting inaccurately.

I would start off by disputing it like......"I have no knowledge or records of this account".... and see what happens. If it still gets verified, then try disputing it for more specific reasons (not an open acct, DOLA incorrect).

I agree with Trish.

Common knowledge in today's society says 7 years for credit accounts and 10 years for CS and BK, however what people don't know is that it's actually 7/10 years from the date of last activity. So, if an account is opened in 1980 and you made your last payment in 2000, then it should fall off in 2007/2010.

I will tell you a little secret...

Most companies (including agencies that hold public records) have time limits on how long they keep account holder records on file before it is purged from their system. At that point, if you dispute the item (whether you are paying for it or not) it will have to be deleted because they will not be able to provide the CRA's with proof of your account.

So..with it being 22 years old, I would absolutely dispute this as "Not mine."
