Whoa. I can understand why you are leery. 18k would make me nervous too. Ok, what state are you in? Are these within the collection SOL?(SOL by state is in the beginner's section)

Sol in PA is 4 years. they are both past the SOL for suit except the 3k account which a$$et is claiming I made a payment on which they cant prove. Making a payment would have restarted the clock. So if they acually can't prove the payment how would that work?

No, even if you made a payment it does not restart the SOL clock. Asset Acceptance are crooks, liars and thieves. I've never dealt with them personally but have had friends that did........and boy what a PITA they are. Even had the pleasure of meeting one of their employees in another credit forum. (that was fun  )

So, since these accts are out of SOL......you really could send them an ITS letter. If they try to sue you, you would have SOL as an affirmative defense........and then you could counter sue.
If you are still worried, by all means, talk to an atty and see what they say. You may be able to at the very least get them to dissolve the debts.

Also, regarding the fake documents they produced (do you still have the paperwork on this?).......if they are saying you paid them with a check (if it was a personal check) then contact your bank and get proof that you did not pay them. Did it have your signature on it?.........That in itself is worth a BIG settlement.

Thanks Trish. I contacted my bank today and a rep is sending me my statements for the month and year a$$et is claiming I made a payment. The rep told me no transactions for the specified amount were done in that month neither by ach debit or check. I wonder how a$$et will respond to that info? And to answer your questions about the fake bill statements. The statements show payments being made all the way into 07. That is impossible. I have made 0 payments.

You can get a pretty good settlement out of this if you want to go after them.I'd nail these bastards to the wall.:p

I second that!

I hate the fact that these scumbags think they can get away with crap like that.

Sending out 6 certified letters to delete the accounts to CA's who are showing a past due or 120 days late when no payment was ever made!!

I feel good about this! Cross your fingers for me guys! Getting there!!

Thanks everyone, so much!!

Trish, any luck on that most devastating list? i found a few things on google but nothing in an exact list...found a few sites that said inquiries were number 1 and a few others who said late payments.

thanks again!
