Cool New - and silly mistake already!

Fiance and I are looking to buy a house, his credit is great (742 score) mine is not great with scores of 583, 587 and 607. So I'm attempting to repair it, because as it stands now I can't even qualify for any mortgages and we have to use both of our incomes and therefore both of our scores.

First thing we did is add me as an authorized user to his credit card which is in excellent standing. I don't know if that will do anything, but supposedly that information is reported to the CRAs.

I read the beginner's guide here and I "opted out" today. I'm in the process of getting together 3 Pay for Deletes for small medical bills within the last couple of years (you think I should wait on this??)

I ordered my credit reports but silly me ordered from freecreditreport.com. It's nice and colorful, but I'm having a hard time figuring out when the accounts were first delinquent, it shows date opened but I'm not seeing any where about first delinquent.

Anyone know?

Nice to meet everyone by the way, I have a feeling there will be many more posts from me to come.

Hi Christie. Welcome

Well, on those medical debts.......if you are going to pay them off, I would use the HIPAA process for removing them. It may take a month or two but it does work and you pay the OC/healthcare provider and NOT the CA (anytime we can avoid paying them we should).

The free reports are "ok" but as you probably already know, they give the CRAs 45 days to investigate instead of 30. It just makes your chances of a delete slimmer.
As for the DOFD.........if you can find the date on your reports, you can always call the CRAs to find out. By law, they have to have this date in their records. So when you call them, ask for the FCRA compliance date/date of first delinquency on the acct.

I know you said you opted out.........but don't forget to update and delete as much personal info as you can (you can also do that in a phone call if you want and it goes a little faster than a mail dispute - of course any other disputes you want to do by certified mail).

As long as the your dh's cc reports AUs, it should definitely help your score. So once they report it (usually a month or so) you should see it go up some.

So....hopefully that helps answers some of your questions. I will try to get your others a bit later........but just wanted to say hi and thanks for joining.
