I’m actually wondering this too. My credit report shows only from Equifax though that the account was sold? The other two don’t report that at all. Should I still try to settle it through just Capital One? I’m thinking about sending a PFD letter and check.

Yes, crap1 is difficult to deal with.

mystikal, they may take payments after CO if they haven't sold the debt. You can call and ask them..........BUT the ONLY way it's going to improve your score is if they remove the notation of CO and report it as paid which I am almost positive the will not do. You can try.....it never hurts to ask.
You may be better off disputing the debt........hopefully there are inaccuracies in their reporting and you can tackle them that way and just have the whole thing removed from your CR.

Crisis......I have NEVER heard of them accepting a PFD. That doesn't mean you can't try it.......but like I said, they are just very difficult to deal with.

Hi Trish my battle with cap1 is when you dispute they always update with something a little different, that you have to dispute in hopes they can red flag you.like we need more info on this account when your disputing their reporting they use every stall tactics they can use.

In my personal experience......the ONLY way to get them to wake up and pay attention is to report them and file a complaint with the OCC.

I fought with them for a year over them on a TL my husband had truly no knowledge of. They were not only reporting a debt we had no clue about (but I wasn't 100% sure because it was during a time before we were married) but also reporting it incorrectly. They verified it every time I disputed. They ignored my verification letters. Finally I had had enough and filed a complaint with the VASCC (before they became a nationally chartered bank they were governed by Virginia's banking laws) and in about 2 or 3 months, they basically sent us a letter apologizing and deleting it from all 3 CRAs.

Could this work?

My name
Address

account number
social
date of birth

Cap one
Screw people over Rd

I have sent numerous letters to your company requesting that you verify this debt. You have still not done so. For this, you have violated my rights as protected by the FCRA and I demand that you delete this devastating account within 30 days of receiving this notice or I will have no choice but to seek the guidance of an attorney.

My name

and send CMRRR?

I think it gets the point across!
Yes...sounds good. You could even threaten to file complaints with the FTC, BBB, State's AG and the OCC. (or if you don't feel like listing them all just say the proper authorities)

FYI: i changed the letter to this before i sent

To whom it may concern;

I have sent numerous letters to your company requesting that you verify these debts. You have still not done so. For this, you have violated my rights as protected by the FCRA and I demand that you delete these devastating accounts and the account(s) you have sold to Portfolio Recovery systems or any other third party, within 30 days of receiving this notice or I will have no choice but to seek the guidance of an attorney and to also file complaints with the appropriate authorities.
