I sent a letter to TU in regards to five accounts that are on my credit report. The letter is: Please verify that the below accounts belong on my CR. In the event that the account(s) can not be verified, please delete these damaging accounts(s) as soon as possible along with sending me an updated report. (Accounts Listed) If any of the account(s) are verified, please send me the name and address of the verifying party, the method of verification, and the reported first delinquency from the original creditor. Thank you for your time. Yesterday I received a letter from TU which stated: Thank you for contacting TU. Our goal is to maintain complete and accurate info on consumer CR. We have provided the info below in response to your request. Re: Verification Documents not Available We store info in our records as it is supplied to us by creditors. When info is disputed, we are required to investigate and record the current status of the info. We do not provide dispute verification responses received from creditors. If you need to obtain documentation or written verification concerning your accounts, then please contact your creditors directly. If you have any additional questions or concerns......................... One question is did I write my letter wrong to investigate ? The response letter from TU means that my letter is closed w/out investigation ? What should be done next ? |

That is a typical stall letter from TU. Do you know when they rec'd your dispute letter so that you can know exactly when their 30 days is up? |

So, what should be done in this matter? I have received this standard response as well - they won't investigate anything very well it seems. (or at all) Dispute with actual creditors? Then try again with TU? I know - I'm just asking this question again, but I am curious. I assume you would do the above - not sure on timing though. |

No no....just wait it out. You will get an official investigation results letter. If they accepted the letter on 4/20 then, by law, you must receive your results letter no later than 5/25 (30 days + 5 days for mail time). If you have still not received anything by then, file an FTC complaint. So....no worries. Just wait it out. |

I don't have a problem waiting the 30 days. The TU letter seems to be leaving you hanging.

But really........it's a stall tactic. AND it's kind of a trick they use to get you to contact them and ask what the deal is.......or maybe send in another dispute. If you do that......they can tack on another 15 days to your investigation and call it "new information" pertaining to the pending investigation. They are sneaky that way. |
