Next, the CA marked the account as Paid/Settled/Closed but it still shows all the 30, 60, 90, 120, 180 late pays. What do I do about that? Does it just stay there? It is recent as January 2009 when I paid the settlement.
If the acct has been paid......you can go ahead and dispute it.
Look carefully at the way it's reporting and see if you see ANY inaccuracies at all. Dates, Terms, type of acct........anything. If you have any questions you can always post the way it's reporting so we can look it over for violations if you want (just leave out personal info, acct #, etc).
They can still report the lates (unfortunately) but only the ones prior to it being charged off (it was charged off right?)

HTH.

Default more on the paid off debt

so to answer your question about my question.... here are the details on my Experian report. First, the status is that I paid the debt in Dec 2008 (not the whole thing but it was settled as paid). None of that activity is reflected on the report - which is good. it's this old garbage that might not even matter that I'm wondering if I shoudl do something about.

1) a collection agency shows on my CR but hasn't reported on it since Aug2006. I think its a different agency than what I settled with although the names are similar. It's listed as Unistates CA LLC and I settled with Unifund.
2) the comment is "creditor cannot locate individual/collection account. Collection account as of Aug 06, June 06 and Sept 05." Nothing has been reported since Aug2006 (2.5 years).
3) this one shows a recent balance - although it says recent balance as of Aug 2006.

4) the original debt with Chase is listed as a seperate line item correctly as far as when it was opened and says last reported activity Jan 2004. comments say transferred/closed /charge off/ write off. Charge of May 2003 and there are lots of late pays with earlier dates. It says recent balance "N/A".

Should I even bother with these? Are they impacting my score? Do I just ask for validation from the Experian or verification from each of the 2 creditors?

I think you can safely dispute these guys off. lol.......they've been shut down.
At the same time....dispute (with the CRAs) the Chase acct with any inaccuracies or mistakes you can find.

Default Chase and Unistate

Yep, I think I'll send new dispute letters to the big 3 tomorrow on that Unistate deal. seems like that should be an easy win. While I'm at it I'll dispute Chase.... I guess I didn't realize that I should just shot gun dispute everything.... It certainly can't hurt anything.

thanks for all your help... this is the most awesome site I've find on the internet.... EVER!
