Default Do you sign the vd/dispute letters?

I am sending out my first round of dispute letters today. I have opted out and am now attacking the bad addresses on the file. Do I sign or print my name on the letters. I thought I read something that said.....DO NOT SIGN ANY VD/DISPUTE LETTERS!

Is this correct?

Never sign a DV (or any letter for that matter) to a CA.
For disputes to the CRAs, it's no biggie........you can sign those if you want to.

Thanks Trish. These letters are going to the CRA's for address disputes. Any thoughts on this topic. I hear Experian can be a real pain and does not remove old or inaccurate add'ys...

I personally like to call the CRAs to dispute addys and personal info.
It just goes faster so I can move on to the TL disputes.

Plus, if you call EX (and yes, they are the toughest), they will tell you why they won't delete certain addresses.......they will let you know which TL the addy is tied to. That way you know.

I called Equifax today and the lady said it will take 45 days for the investigation instead of the normal 30 days. I sent all of the letters CMRR on both my wifes and mine. What letter would you send as a "follow up" letter if they do not remove/update the addresses?

Why 45 days? Did you use a free report?
Also (for future reference) I wouldn't send disputes to the CRAs CMRR. CM only works best and it's cheaper.
EQ is usually pretty good about deleting the addys and personal info.......I doubt you will have to send a follow up letter. If by chance they don't....let me know. I do know of another letter that might have a bit more impact. I would just have to find it.

Hey Trish,
you know, I failed to ask why 45 days. I "assumed" it was because I was calling over the phone rather than by mail. Anywho, I sent the actual addy dispute letters CM.

It is my understanding based on what I have read on here and CB that we should start with:

1) Opt out
2) attack the addresses tied to the derog accounts (what if they do not remove them?).
3) Dispute with the CRA's ( What do I dispute? ie. not mine etc?)
4) Whats next? The CA's or the OC's?

Has anyone put all of this in order for us rookies on here so we do not screw up and get something stuck for the entire 7 years.... ?

I don't know why they would tell you 45 days.....unless it's a free report you're disputing off of OR.....you contact them during a dispute which lets them add on and extra 15 days. Or she could have just smoked too much crack that day... You never know with them.

For your plan of attack:

1. Yes..
2. You should dispute ALL addys (not just ones tied to derogs) Try to get all of them removed (except for your current of course) if you can. If they do not removed them.....don't beat yourself up over it.....just move on.
3. It all depends what you are disputing. Look closely over your TLs and see if there are ANY inaccuracies. Challenge anything reporting incorrectly. DO NOT dispute as "not mine" unless it's truly not yours. Otherwise you will end up with a fraud alert on your CRs. (oh for addys, just dispute as "never lived there")
4. I always start with the oldest......any that are out of SOL first. Then after that (if you are planning to pay or try a PFD) go after the smaller ones first......ones that you can afford to pay off if you have to.

Hopefully that helps answer your questions.

I have addys on my CR that I do not know where these are . How does this affect my CR? also, Should you dispute everything at one time? or should you dispute addys and then credit cards that you are authorized but not the owner of the acct. Should those accts. be showing on my report? Can you dispute all the names and TL's. there is stuff showing that I have been late for 30 days. I have never been late 30 days. It makes me wonder if the OC has mis applied a payment. I have everything being paid by my bank every month automatically. I rarely write a check at all. Thanks in advance,

KArl

Just like I told Flypilot in my previous post....you always want to optout and correct/update all personal info first. They (the CRAs) will cross check different references with the OC/CA electronically. If they can verify at least 4 areas regarding that TL you are disputing (name, ss#, address, etc.) then they call it good and verified. Removing any addresses, phone numbers, employment history, name variations, ect. will give them one (or more) less thing to verify with the companies. Does that make sense?
So YES, it makes a difference if you have tons of extra personal info on there. It makes it more difficult for YOU to get a delete.

For authorized user accts. If they are damaging your credit, then by all means, dispute them off. They are some of the easiest things to get removed because by law, you have NO financial obligation to those accts.

If you know you weren't late, then talk to the company reporting first. If you have proof that you paid on time.......even better.

I would not dispute everything at once. You can dispute ALL of your personal info at once........but other than that, keep it down to no more than 4 items per dispute at a time.
