Hello Everyone, I recently disputed some charges on my credit directly with the credit bureaus about 60 days ago and I have NOT gotten a single letter back from them or any sort of correspondence. I gave them my email, mailing address and phone number. The charges on my credit don't belong to me, and many stem from what appears to be the previous tenant who lived in my apartment. The rest is extremely old medical debt from someone with a similar name as me. Can anyone please look at my letter and see what you think of it? Should I just try and resend it? I recently pulled a credit report for a client from Kroll Factual Data and the addresses for the three bureaus are correct as far as I can tell, based upon the information provided by Kroll. Thanks again for the help and here is the example of my letter: Legal Name: [Client Full Legal Name] Current Address: [Current Street Address] [City, State, Zip] Phone Number: [Cell Phone Number] Email Address: [WORKING Email Address] Social Security Number: [Social Security Number] Date of Birth: [DOB] To: Equifax Consumer Relations / Disputes Department P.O. Box 2002 Allen, TX 75013 Today’s Date: July 6, 2008 Dear [Experian/TransUnion/Equifax] Credit Dispute Department, It has come to my attention that various accounts on my credit report do not belong to me, and to the best of my knowledge are not debts I incurred. Please provide substantiative WRITTEN evidence that the following accounts belong on my report. In the event that none exists, please delete these damaging accounts immediately. Please mail your response to this dispute and any evidence of debt to my mailing address listed above. Sincerely, [Client Full Legal Name] Signature_________________________________________ _______ Disputed Entries (Account/Creditor Name, Account Number): 1. I would only dispute 3-5 items at a time per CRA. If it's been 60 days, yes resend it. Make sure their addresses are correct as well as yours. Yes, I would send a photocopy of your driver's license and social security card. (Never send this stuff to debt collectors. Just the CRAs.) One more thing, do NOT dispute it as "not mine" unless it really isn't yours. And even then, you may want to reconsider the wording. Just tell them that you would like for them to verify the accounts or remove them. You don't need to give them a reason. The burden of proof is on them, not you. The less you say, the better.

Thanks for that info. All great advice. I will make the changes you suggest and keep the max disputes at or under six. I'll also be purchasing the Credit Secrets book...Hopefully it goes into all of this in a bit more detail. SAMortgages. |
