I would like to get a negative item off of my credit that was reported by a collection agency. I spoke with someone at the collection agency and they said that they cannot take it off, even though I paid them in full on an account that I never received letters for. I changed addresses at the time and did not get them. The charge was for an apartment that I moved out of 2 years ago that I didn't even know I owed money to. It was $86! What is the best thing that I can do?

Yes, I would dispute it with the CRAs. Another thing that worked for someone I know is to keep calling them. Their time is money. They've already gotten their money out of you..... they are not going to want to keep dealing with you and if you bug them enough, they may just do what it takes to get rid of you... kwim? Stay polite, be nice......even be talkative (no sense it getting frustrated.......you really have nothing to lose) and drive them nuts. The guy I knew called them just about every day, wrote them NUMBEROUS letters and just kept trying. Eventually they gave up. It may take a little effort but it's worth a shot. |

I too was also going to suggest that you dispute it with the big 3. After getting paid, the CA doesn't really care to respond to the CRA's. If they actually do respond to the CRA's in order to verify it, you can try again until it gets deleted. That is, keep disputing it until it gets deleted. Good luck! |
