Default gw letter to orig creditor

This may seem like a shot in the dark kind of question but I'm trying to clear any negative accounts off my credit reports in any way possible. I had a credit card that was sent to collections (a long time ago). Even though I haven't paid the CA, the OC only shows one 30 day late and "purchased by another lender" under remarks. Would it be worth a try to send a GW letter to the OC since, as far as I would think (& I could very well be wrong), they are done with the account anyway? Or should I just let sleeping dogs lie and wait until I can get the CA paid or it rolls off?

Let's see...

When was the date of the first delinquency? How much was the debt?

Here is all the information:
It is with Presidio (I think it was a Providian card)
Date Opened: 08/2001
Reported Since: 09/2001
Date of Status: 04/2005
Last Reported: 04/2005
Estimated to be Removed 07/2009
Oh, I just looked on a different CRA's report and is reported as a charge-off on that one. Guessing that will make a huge difference. I think I just answered my own question...
