Smile hard inquiries

I noticed an inquiry on my credit report from Daniels and Morelli (law firm) dated April 07. In Sept. 07 I was served papers for an unpaid charge card. I settled. My question is can a law firm (or anyone else) pull up my credit report without my permission?

The CRA's allow even collection agencies to make hard inquiries on your credit report.

Wouldn't you like to strangle anyone who checked your credit without your permission?

Actually, it's a soft pull. It's only a hard pull when you request it. It won't lower your scores.

No, I am not sure. It was TransUnion report and was reported under "Regular Inquiries" Said it would remain on CR for 2 years.

Yea those regular inquiries are hard ones. I wish I new the answer to your question. There doesn't seem to be much discussion about inquiries on the forums.

Chane, do you know if anyone can put a hard inquiry on a person's credit report without the person's consent?

No, they absolutely can not. It's against the law and I believe, a $1,000 fine owed to you if you can prove it in court. Many creditors have lost to consumers in court regarding this situation.

Creditors used to do it all the time before they came up with this law. They would do it to "get back at you" for not paying them what you owe them. Because they know it lowers your scores and makes it so you can't get a loan elsewhere. There are plenty of dirty tricks like this that creditors, especially CAs used to do, and some they still do to this day on a regular basis. Bastards!

OK so its against the law. I can't afford a lawyer and all I really care about is how to remove it from my report. What can I do and where do I start?

What do you want to have removed? The inquiry or the charge off?

The inquiry is not worth it, it will fall off in April 2009. It's not really effecting your credit score.

If you want to remove the charge off, start here:
