Default Showing on my credit report after paying account!

Hello everyone,

So I had an account with hospital X since Apr, 2007. I had applied for assistance and that took quite some time to get processed and approved due to miscommunication and the fact the my faxes and docs didn't reach the administrator on time....etc!

Anyway, last April, I had my account/balance with the hospital taken care of and paid them my due balance after assistance. At the same time, it turned out that there is a SEPARATE account for ER bill that I didn't know of at all and it went to collection 12/2007 and I just realized that this last Apr. I have contacted the CA immediately to tell them and told the lady that I am waiting for my assistance application to get approved and I will get back to her to pay the balance.

She agreed and I got back to her immediately after I got approved with the hospital and she said that I can pay now instead of $500, I can pay $100 ONLY because I was approved for assistance (I faxed the approval to her per request) and I thought that I am good and done as she didn't say ANYTHING else!

Now yesterday, I find out that there is a note on my credit report saying "Seriously past-due PAID account" which apparently my bank turned me down for something I applied for with them because of THAT!! Of course, I don't want that to be on my account anyway so I contacted them and said "why it is on my report?" The lady answered "because you paid only a portion (settled) amount and not the total so we can't remove it and we will only remove it if you pay us again in FULL (as in the $500 amount)"

Is that legal and correct to do on their behalf? I am kind of naive in this prospective so please your advice and any solutions on how can I dispute this? I will really appreciate it!

I believe it's legal, but it's definitely not cool. I would dispute the hell out of it.

Start here:

Of course it will help if it gets deleted.

You simply say:

Dear Equifax (or TU or EX),

"The following addresses are inaccurate, please remove them:"

{List all addresses except for the one you are currently reside at}

Thanks,

{Your name}

Thank you, guys! Can I do the same for my name's variations? They put almost 5 variations of my name, which hypothetically are correct but not how my name is officially written!
