I just got an alert on my Equifax report that one of my collections account went from "unpaid" to "checked" what does that mean? Does it help my file or hurt it?? |

I have honestly never seen or heard of this status... but according to some, it is a bogus status and a EQ error. Status: Checked is not a legal term and not one of the typical codes they use. The change in status should not affect your score one way or the other.... it's still just a collection acct (which most definitely is a derogatory acct).. My advice would be to dispute it by regular mail (not by phone or online) and state that it is being reported inaccurately. |

I would just dispute it via US mail (certified so you have proof and can track it).... letting them know it's inaccurate. Just a short simple dispute. Best to hand write it if you can. |
