If I lived in one state and recently moved to another state - which state law do I have to reference to for state SOL on debts? I moved from Missouri to Texas a few months ago and both have different state laws regarding collection agencies and SOL. Thank you |

Generally, you go by the state you currently reside in. Some of the states have stipulations.. Texas, I know, is one of them. You have to be a resident for 6 months before you can use Tx SOL. Thanks for bringing this up! I think I will try to add some more info to the SOL thread on this subject. There are also some states that have borrowing statutes where you can use your old state's SOL if it is shorter than your new state's SOL... which is kinda nice. Only reason I'm a little more familiar with Tx laws is because I'm a native Texan. |
