Okay, I have also been working on cleaning up my husband's credit report along with mine. I disputed a mortgage line with the credit bureau and it came back verified. I also sent a dv letter to the orginal creditor. The first time they requested a copy of my husband's social security card. I have never had this happen before so I wrote back stating they had all info on file and we were not comfortable sending a copy of his ss card in the mail due to identify theft reasons. I get the same response back. They still want a copy of the ss card before they send me anything. I do not feel like I should have to send this in since they verified the information with the credit bureau as correct and I do not feel comfortable sending it in the mail or by fax. What can my next step be? Thanks.

Is this EQ? Have you ever sent them a copy of your ss# before? If not, you may need to send proof of ID before they will send you any information or investigate your dispute. Yes....it's a PITA but you usually have to do it the first time and then you should be good. Also.... if you are dealing with an OC, you should send them a debt verification letter.......not a standard DV letter. I just wanted to make sure you are sending the OC the correct letter. DV (debt validation) letters are only for CAs. |

No, it's the OC who wants a copy of the ss card not the credit bureau. I will send them a debt verification letter and see how that goes..... I will check the sample letters then. Thanks!
