Default This has to be illegal!!! Please help

I am trying my best to clean up my credit and pay everything on time. Asset Acceptance has been trying to collect on an old dept (5 years old) SOL in Jersey is 6 years.
I requested that they validate the debt and it was removed from my credit reports. Now it is back and re-dated with a $1 increase in the amount owed. They say that I am currently past due (past due date of this week). Because of this my fico score went down 42 points!!!!!!
When I went to my credit report it looks like the do a hard pull on my credit report every couple of days(causing my score to keep dropping).
Is this legal? What should I do? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Are you sure they're hard inquiries? I doubt they are, but you definitely want to know if they are for sure. You can also dispute them.

I would also dispute the collection account.

I can make 3 suggestions here for you...

1) Dispute the collection account with a letter requesting correction of reappearing incorrect item

2) Dispute the inquires as unauthorized inquiries

3) If SOL is 6 years then you are only a few months away from being released from such debt, so just wait it out then use an SOL letter to the creditor to remove the debt. They will have to write it off as a loss.
