okay, i sent a letter a few weeks ago to Portfolio to verify a debt..

They came back with a letter today that says:

"in our previous letter to you, we requested that you send our company additional information pertaining to the account referenced above so that the disputes department could complete the investigation of the alleged dispute.

To date we have not received this information and cannot complete the investigation. "

yada yada....kind of goes on like that...

They need to prove that the debt is yours.now if i was on trial and stood up and yell i kill the sob.I'm pretty sure the rest of the would be down hill for me.I don't think they have would they need. They had 30 days there time is up,it's time to produce or give up the ghost.Their stalling.

Yes, it sounds like they are stalling.
Did you put the acct # in the letter (as it appears on your CR)? If so......then they should have no problem finding you.

Was this letter you sent a DV2?

Ok. then I would go ahead and send them a DV2 like the one in the DV thread.
I would also add somewhere in that letter (maybe in the first paragraph) that you have supplied adequate information for them to identify you and you will not share any personal information with them. Your name, address and acct number should give them enough info.
