Verizon Wireless and a collection agency are reporting the same account monthly. I wrote a validation letter to the CA via certified mail 2 months ago with no response. I filed a dispute with the Credit reporting agencies and they say that they have verified the debt. I dont know where to go from here. It is showing as 2 negatives on my report for the same account which is not even mine. I have used Verizon for 9 years now with the same number in Arizona and this number was to an address is Florida.

Yes, I would contact verizon. They should be able to straighten it out if it's not your acct.

I have contacted them and they say that they have no information on the account because it was charged off and sold to pinnacle financial. Does a CA have to respond within 30 days of your validation letter. I sent mine out and they were received on April 4. I have not heard anything from them. Is the OC allowed to report it as well as the CA?

Yes, an OC and a CA can both report the same debt.....but only one can report a balance. A CA does not have respond to your DV letter at all........BUT if they choose not to respond, then they must discontinue any collection activity until they validate the debt with you. Did you try a 1 2 punch? Because if the CA verified the debt with the CRAs after getting your DV letter, they are in violation. You may also want to try the Verizon fraud dept like jj said. Even if they sold the acct, they should have records so that they can tell if the debt actually belonged to you. |

Trish and JJJgross... You are very knowledgeable and helpful. Greatly appreciated. I do not know what the 1 2 punch is but it seems like I might have done it without knowing. I just disputed the account to the CRA about 2 weeks ago, but I sent my verification letter to the CA almost 2 months ago. Does that change things?

| If this is a cell phone they can't collect on it.Cell phones are uncollectible after 2 years. So you can tell the ca to go away little man. However i still would talk to some one at Verizon because there's something wrong.:D

So if that is what happened (which is what it sounds like) then as long as you have proof of your dispute and DV letter (CM receipts/RR card). Then you should send the CA a DV2. You can also dispute it with the CRAs again when you do that. If it happens again you have them on violations and can turn around and sue them. |
