Default What should I do

Hello All,

I have received 2 letter from 2 different CA presenting discount offeres. 1 CA, Asset Acceptance LLC wants to discount my balance by 80% from $524.26 to $104.85 if I respond before 3/31/09.

2nd CA Afni Inc., who is representing the OC (Verizon) wants to settle for $63.17 and said that there records will reflect the status of my account as settled in full.

For both CA, would you recoommed sending a good faith letter or letter stating that if I pay the amount requested?

Thanks

Have you received validation on these accounts? Do you know for sure that you owe these and that they have the right to collect on them?

I would contact Verizon and pay them directly. AFNI are scum.

Oh......and I would not agree to pay anything unless they would agree to delete it from your CRs.

I know it sounds like a good deal.......but you really should get validaton first.
And as far as reporting it as "settled as full".......that will not help you one bit.
As long as there is a collection on your report, paid or not paid....it looks bad.

So the only way they can REALLY give you a good deal is if you get them to delete it.

One more thing.....
If you are sure these debts are yours.......you can do a PFD (have you read the PFD thread?) and send a check w/a restrictive endorsement.

Since you are in PA, they honor REs.

Okay.....I am glade you brought that to my attention so the PFD with the endorsed checked applies to the state that the debtor resides and not the state where the CA operates?

Yes. It would be ideal if both states allowed RE's. But if it is at least allowed in your state, it is fightable.........since it is in your state that you would be enforcing this law.

*I would still try to pay Verizon directly though. (can you tell I have a secret hatred for AFNI? lol :p )
