Need some help... Sent a paid for delete letter and the CA responded with another debt validation. They also said that it would be the last correspondance they would send to us. This has happened with two diferent CAs and I am not sure where to go from here... Should I call them on the phone and offer to settle the debt so it will at least show as $0 balance on my CR or is there another way to "buy" a deletion. We are looking to get a new home and we have the cash to settle all of our negative debts but am not sure the best way to do it. 90% are medical and we also have a repo that shows twice (Ford and the CA they sold the debt to). Any good advice would be great! Thanks! Aaron and Nicki |

What kind of PFD letter did you send? Were you trying to settle for less.......or paying the full amount? Did you send them a check w/RE? and also do RE's hold up in your state? Just trying to figure out what you did.......so I just need a little more info. Also....what kind of validation did they send? Sorry.....I know I have a lot of questions.......but once I get your answers, I can better answer your questions. |

Hello. ![]() So the letter was asking for an agreement for a PFD......with no form of payment enclosed. IMHO, those are just not as effective as a PFD with payment enclosed w/a RE (restrictive endorsement) on the check/money order. If you want go the PFD route, you need to see if RE's hold up in your state. Look here. Information on REs is in the 2nd post. Now about the validation........are they copies of medical docs from the original healthcare provider (or just a computer printout from the CA)? Did you even ask for validation of the debt or dispute that it was yours? Also.....there is another option....for medical, you can go the HIPAA route. Read that link and see if you have any questions. You have to pay the OC/healthcare provider (in full) and have absolutely NO contact with the CA from here on out. You follow the HIPAA process and you will be able to get the CA off. |

Trish, you are awesome! We have been going about this the complete wrong way! Just to make sure I understand, you recommend avoiding the CAs all together and sending the payment with the PFD letter to the OC? It has been a while since I have paid for anything with a money order...how hard are they to track when they have been cashed? Also, we have been reading up on getting old addresses deleted from our reports. I'm not sure how this helps, but is it something that you recommend we do? And if so, should we get the addresses taken care of before we continue on in our quest for PFDs? Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us! We appreciate it more than you could ever know! If you do the HIPAA process, you don't do a PFD letter. Look through the HIPAA link posted above and you will see that on Why Chat's site, there is a medical dispute letter.......you send that letter first. Then if it comes back verified you send the HIPAA letter to the OC with payment. And yes, you are right......do not have any communication with the CAs. I had to read through Why Chat's HIPAA page a couple of times before it made sense......so look through it and if you still have questions let me know. You do want to opt out and then update/delete as much personal info as possible first. That is really the first step in ANY kind of credit repair. You can do it a little quicker by calling the CRAs if you choose to. So, I hope that makes a little more sense. You're welcome. Glad I could help.
