ok, so around the 10th of january i mailed out some debt validation letters to some collection agencies. I recently recieved a response from one of them...and what they sent doesn't really mean anything to me. Basically they mailed me back some screen shots of a computer screen that had my name and some numbers on it. In the cover letter it rambles about some stuff 'Per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, this itemized bill from your creditor serves as validation of your account...blah blah blah.' So, is some quick screen shots really considered true debt validation? The letter i snagged off this website had a form to be filled out and returned to me, and this came with no form. Should i resend the validation request? Is there a follow up letter for the collection agencies? Is this piss poor excuse for validation as good as it's going to get? |

That does not validate the debt. Debt collectors try to get away with shit like that all the time. The only thing you can do now is decide to negotiate with them or fight it in court by suing them. Sorry it took so long to answer. I didn't see this post.

I am in the same boat. My letters are essentially getting ignored. However, I would write a complaint to your Attorney General and the FTC. Next, send back yet ANOTHER letter however this time with copies of the complaint to the Attorney General of your state and the FTC to let the CAs know you are serious. This may give you the edge you need. After that compile all the letters you sent over time and read up on the law regarding what these scumbag CAs violated and take them to small claims court. Well since they don't seem to be able to validate the debt, isn't the information they have reported onto your credit reports incorrect? and therefore must be removed? I believe there is a dispute letter on the main site that asks the CRA's to remove the account if no one can validate the debt.
