I was surprised to see a derogatory account appear on my credit report in 2007 for an unpaid $25 speeding ticket that I received over seven years ago. Can a collection agency come after me for such an old debt? I don't mind paying them, but I am afraid that it will only update the derogatory account and make it stick on my credit report until 2014! Should I just ignore it and dispute the issue with the credit bureau? This issue is from so long ago. Any advice would help. Thanks. Last edited by Trenton08620; 11-22-2007 at 12:31 AM. |

Definitely don't ignore it! Don't mess with the collection agency unless you have to. Pay the people who issued the ticket. If they won't accept the money, you may have to deal with the CA. Either way I would definitely dispute it with the credit bureaus. If it doesn't come off after a few disputes, you may need to contact the collection agency (last resort) and ask them if they'll remove it if you pay it. Get it in writing...collection agencies are slime.
