I have just become a member of this website about 2 minutes ago. I have been lurking around for a day, if that. My husband and I are working on repairing our credit so we can buy a house this coming January when we have to relocate for his new job.

I never understood what it meant to "opt out" until I read this post. Thank you and I have done it for both my husband and I!

Okay, I opted out and just received a letter from Transunion wanting a copy of my drivers license, bank statement, etc. It states the address they have on file for me is not correct or they don't have it on file??? I haven't disputed anything recently and I haven't sent my letter to them about the old address removal... From what I've read, do I have to send them this information? That's really personal and sensitive material........<3

This is getting to be standard with tu.While you might send them the items they want.I would block out any amounts you have in your accounts.

Default Hell all

:DI just joined and have read a lot of the posts before deciding to do so. I had to be sure this wasn't just a scam to get me to join something that would be nothing but hype. Since reading everyone's posts I am now embarking on the journey to clean up my credit.

One of my credit cards was reduced by the CCC and I am working with them. I actually wrote the CEO a letter and his secretary or one of them responded the other day and we had a very long talk. She is looking at my credit history and helping me restore my limits, since this reduction is a bad light on my overall credit.

I also am working on my girlfriends credit report, she has a bankruptcy on it and we would like any help you can give us on the first steps to take it cleaning her report up?? So an e-mails on what to do would be appreciated. Thanks to all the posters and all the help this is definately a gold mine

I agree. I hate having to send them that information, but unfortunately, you pretty much have to. They won't let you do anything until you prove your address. I send them a copy of my driver's license and a current utility bill. Both of them MUST have your current address on it.

Sending them something with an old address is a big mistake because you are 1) verifying an old address 2) confusing the hell out of them. They are already dumb enough, don't confuse them more.

Thanks Chane, I did send them the information they requested. I also did my drivers license and a copy of a utility bill. I didn't want to send anything with banking information on it... Now, onto the next step!

When I started disputing with CRA all three wanted additional id info.* I would send them a current copy utility bill and social security card that is it.* After a couple of months disputing I stopped sending the info and don't have a problem disputing.

I wanted to ask a question about having old addresses removed after the opting out is done. How long to you wait to do it? and what kind of letter do you send? Do you simply send each CRA a letter requesting that all old addresses be removed from your report? Thank you for your input...this board is wonderful!!

You can start as soon as you want, and you can do it on line or phone and by mail.remember if a tradeline or public record is tied to that address it can't be removed.
