Hi all! I am 25 years old and I am sure from my title that you have already guessed my profession. I have been in school since Fall of 2002 and have been volunteering since December of 2006. I am currently in a national volunteer organization that pays for my living expenses.
I recently filed for bankruptcy after 5 years of falling deeper and deeper in to medical and credit card debt. I lost my job and wrecked my car back in 2005 and havent been able to find steady work since. I think i've made less than $5k a year for the past few years. Partially the reason why I have stayed in school and joined this service organization. I am concerned with what will be discharged with my bankruptcy since i have about 168k in student loans (half private and half federal).... total debt is about 210000. I was a very irresponsible teen (got my 1st credit card at 18 in 2002; and as I entered my 25th year of life I just couldnt take the collection calls any more. I filled Jan 13th and have my creditors meeting in 3 more weeks. Im a scared, nervous, upset with myself, relieved, concerned and a whole bunch of other things. I dont know how Im going to go about rebuilding my credit. I was thinking of just getting a secure card until I get back on my feet. I dont know how long that will be. Anywho I just wanted to post about my situation and see if anyone could shed some light on what to expect and how to get myself back on the right track
