I completely agree with Trish. "Dealing with the credit bureaus" should always be the first move and filing complaints when they disregard the law is a very valuable strategy.

Always remember that the squeaky wheel gets the oil. About the time that they figure out that you are not just going to "go away and forget about it" is about the time they start to do whatever it takes to get you to shut up.

With that said, you always want to choose your battles wisely and you never want to annoy anyone more than you have to. Always ask nicely first. Politeness, kindness and even flattery go a long way in situations like this.

However, if you refuse to be ignored, sometimes you have to be the squeaky wheel. Make sure you never get caught up and take it to the point of harassment or any other illegal/immoral tactic.
