It's hard to say, Angie. I don't know what they will do. They may not bother verifying it once it is paid. So, you may want to pay it and then dispute it. You can also try a pay for delete letter.
Since it's a newer account, you definitely want to get it taken care of asap. If it were an older account (5 years or more) I would say "screw them - don't pay it if they won't agree to remove it!"
